Google search results are changing. Alongside traditional websites, users increasingly encounter Reddit threads, Facebook Groups, Quora answers, and other online discussions when searching for information. For marketers, these results offer another way to understand what audiences want to know and which platforms influence their decisions.
Recent Reddit SEO statistics from Ahrefs put this trend into perspective. After analyzing 145 million US Google search results, Ahrefs found that the “Discussions and forums” feature appeared in 11.7% of results.
Reddit was the most prominent domain, appearing in 83.9% of these results worldwide. The research also examined Facebook and Quora’s visibility, the types of searches that trigger discussion results, and whether backlinks help individual threads appear more often.
Here is what the data reveals and how SEO teams can use these findings to inform their strategies.

Key Findings From the Reddit SEO Statistics
- Reddit leads the results The platform appeared in 83.9% of Google’s “Discussions and forums” results worldwide.
- Three platforms dominate Reddit, Facebook, and Quora accounted for 76.75% of all links appearing in the feature.
- Informational searches are the most common Some 98.7% of feature appearances involved queries classified as informational.
- Longer queries trigger the feature more often Searches containing five or more words accounted for 43.2% of appearances.
- Individual backlinks do not explain everything Ahrefs found no correlation between backlinks to individual discussion URLs and how frequently those pages appeared in the feature.
These findings highlight the visibility of community platforms in Google. However, appearing in search results does not automatically translate into website traffic, leads, or sales.
Brands need to understand where these discussions fit into their audience’s search journey before deciding how to respond.
Reddit Appears in 83.9% of Google Search Discussion Results
Reddit was the most prominent domain in Ahrefs’ research, appearing in 83.9% of Google’s “Discussions and forums” results worldwide. In the US, the figure reached 87.8%.
The platform also ranked prominently across different markets, researchers discovered Reddit was the most prevalent domain in 34 countries, although other platforms ranked higher in some regions. This visibility makes Reddit worth monitoring, particularly for businesses in industries where customers regularly ask questions, compare products, or share personal experiences.
Consider someone researching skincare treatments. They might visit a brand’s website to understand a procedure, then search Reddit to read about other people’s experiences.
Both destinations can serve a purpose, but they answer different questions. For marketers, those conversations can reveal concerns that product pages and marketing campaigns might overlook. They can also help teams understand how customers describe their needs in their own words.
That does not mean every business needs to build a Reddit presence. The first step is identifying whether relevant discussions exist and whether participating would genuinely benefit the audience.

Facebook and Quora Also Have a Significant Search Presence
Reddit leads the feature, but it is not the only community platform appearing in Google. According to the research, Facebook appeared in 38.29% of results containing the feature, while Quora appeared in 31.96%.
Together with Reddit, these three platforms accounted for 76.75% of all “Discussions and forums” link appearances worldwide. Facebook’s visibility is particularly interesting because the URLs appearing in the study came from public Facebook Groups.
The data shows that Facebook overtook Quora in early 2026 in terms of how frequently the platforms appeared in these search results. Quora, meanwhile, continued to appear across a broad range of queries, from questions about plastic surgery costs to everyday technology issues.
The takeaway is simple, do not assume Reddit is the only place worth researching. The most useful platform depends on the industry and the questions customers ask.
A beauty business might find treatment discussions in one community and pricing questions in another. A software company may discover that technical questions are concentrated in specialist forums.
Instead of prioritizing platforms based on popularity alone, look at which ones appear for the searches that matter to your business.
Most Discussion Results Come From Informational Searches
One of the more interesting insights drawn from these Reddit SEO statistics concerns search intent. The findings reveals that 98.7% of appearances in the “Discussions and forums” feature involved queries classified as informational.
Commercial intent appeared in 40.9% of cases, while navigational intent accounted for 0.6%. These categories can overlap, so the figures do not add up to 100%.
Informational searches often indicate that people want an explanation, advice, or help making sense of a particular issue. They might be researching a product, looking for a solution to a problem, or trying to understand what an experience will be like before spending money.
Community discussions can be useful in these situations because they offer perspectives from people who have encountered similar questions or challenges. For brands, these conversations can reveal gaps in existing content.
If people repeatedly ask about pricing, product limitations, setup difficulties, or expected results, those questions may deserve clearer answers on the company’s website. The goal is not to turn every discussion into another keyword target.
The goal is to understand what people need and create content that answers their questions properly.
Longer Queries Are More Likely to Show Forum Discussions
Search query length is another useful finding from the study. The data shows that queries containing five or more words accounted for 43.2% of appearances in Google’s “Discussions and forums” feature.
Searches containing eight words were roughly three times more likely to trigger the feature than queries overall. This pattern reflects how people search when they have a specific problem or situation in mind.
A broad query such as “running shoes” could return product pages and shopping results. A more detailed search, such as “which running shoes are best for wide feet,” communicates a clearer need and may lead users to discussions from people with similar experiences.
For SEO teams, longer queries can be a useful starting point for audience research. They often reveal the context behind a search, including concerns, comparisons, and practical questions that broader keywords do not capture.
Marketers can explore these opportunities using keyword research tools and search-result analysis. You can learn more in Ahrefs Guide to Keyword Research.
Search volume still matters, but it should not be the only consideration. A query with relatively modest demand can reveal an important customer concern, especially when the same question appears repeatedly across different communities.

A Small Number of Pages Can Drive Significant Visibility
A domain does not necessarily need hundreds of successful discussion pages to appear frequently in Google’s results. The analysis highlights that 27 of the top 1,000 domains had a single URL responsible for at least 10% of their appearances in the “Discussions and forums” feature.
For 768 domains, one URL accounted for at least 1% of their overall presence. The study included some striking examples.
One health-related page on the Gleneagles Hospital website accounted for 67% of the domain’s appearances in the feature. Another domain received 30% of its overall presence from a single discussion post published in 2020.
This suggests that certain pages can contribute disproportionately to a site’s visibility in this particular search feature. For businesses, the useful lesson is to identify topics where a clear, comprehensive answer could help customers.
That might mean improving an FAQ page, publishing a practical comparison, or creating a troubleshooting guide. There is no guarantee that one page will generate the same results as the examples in the study.
However, reviewing the pages that already perform well can help marketers understand which questions attract search visibility and whether their own content addresses those needs.
Domain Rating Does Not Explain Every Result
Research also examined the authority of domains appearing in Google’s discussion results. Across the top 1,000 domains in the study, the average Domain Rating (DR) was 58.3.
The top 100 domains averaged 78, while the bottom 100 averaged 48. The researchers observed a moderate correlation between domain prominence and DR, but the relationship was driven largely by the strongest domains. Sites with both high and low DR scores appeared throughout the rankings.
More importantly, the data shows no correlation between backlinks to individual discussion URLs and how often those pages appeared in the feature. This does not mean backlinks are irrelevant to SEO.
It means backlinks to individual URLs did not explain their visibility in this specific dataset. For marketers, the distinction matters.
Authority metrics can provide useful context, but they do not tell the whole story of why a discussion appears in search results. Relevance, the query being searched, and the nature of the platform should also be considered when evaluating opportunities.
Should Brands Build Their Own Forums for SEO?
Not solely to appear in Google’s discussion results. Industry data showed that the average age of the top 1,000 domains was 21 years and eight months.
The youngest domain identified was three years and 11 months old. However, domain registration age does not necessarily reflect when a forum was created or how long it has been active.
The data does not establish that older domains automatically rank better, nor does it prove that launching a new forum will lead to search visibility. Creating a community can make sense when there is a genuine reason for people to participate.
Businesses with active customer bases, recurring support questions, or users who benefit from sharing knowledge may find value in maintaining their own discussion spaces. Building a forum just to attract organic traffic is a different proposition.
Without a clear purpose and regular participation, it may become an inactive space that offers little value to customers. Before investing in a new community, investigate where your audience already spends time and what they want from those conversations.

How to Use These Reddit SEO Statistics in Your Strategy
The study is most useful when it informs decisions rather than becoming another set of numbers in a report. Here are four ways SEO teams can apply the findings.
- Find out which communities appear for your target keywords Start with the searches most relevant to your products, services, or industry. Review the results to see whether Google surfaces Reddit threads, Facebook Groups, Quora answers, or specialist forums. Ahrefs users can explore relevant queries in Keywords Explorer and apply the “Discussions and forums” SERP feature filter.
- Look for questions that existing content does not answer Read the discussions instead of relying on search snippets alone. Look for recurring questions, common objections, and points of confusion.
- Improve the content you already have Once you have identified recurring questions, check whether your website answers them clearly. You may not need to publish a new article for every question.
- Join conversations without turning them into advertisements If your team participates in Reddit threads or other communities, make sure the contribution is relevant to the discussion and genuinely helpful.
What This Means for Your SEO Strategy
The latest data from these Reddit SEO statistics reinforces the visibility of community discussions in Google search results. Reddit leads the feature, while Facebook and Quora also account for a substantial share of appearances.
For SEO teams, the opportunity goes beyond trying to place links in popular threads. These discussions can reveal the questions people ask, the problems they encounter, and the information they struggle to find elsewhere.
That does not mean every business needs to join every platform or launch its own forum. Start by identifying where your audience already looks for answers. Then decide whether your brand can contribute something useful, either through better website content or meaningful participation in relevant communities.
Search visibility is worth pursuing, and understanding what people actually need gives that visibility a purpose.
